Monopole Mobility Calculator

Monopole mobility measures how much the guitar top moves in response to the forces from the strings. Monitoring this can help luthiers refine their instruments for optimal performance and sound quality.

How to Create a Deflection Jig

Instructions:

Position a dial indicator directly above the bridge of the guitar, supported by stable platforms on either side of the guitar top.

Place a known weight on the bridge, allowing the dial indicator to measure how much the guitar top deflects.

Record this value as your deflection.

Determine Monopole Resonance Frequency

Instructions:

Plug the soundhole with a soft material that won't damage the guitar. Gently tap the bridge with your finger to generate a sound.

Use an FFT analysis app to identify the dominant frequency produced by the tap.

This value is your Monopole resonance frequency. If you're unsure how to proceed, refer to Galloup Notes on our Patreon for further guidance.
